Sir Gawain a chivalrous man?

Sir Gawain, a man who took up a challenge for honor, had his story told. The main question is, "Was Sir Gawain a chivalrous man?" Sir Gawain certainly displayed acts of chivalry, but he also lied to the green knight, which conflicts with a code of Chivalry; but, this will go over the chivalrous things Sir Gawain did as well. In "Sir Gawain and the Green Knight" a Green Knight comes to challenge King Arthur. The King is baffled at the challenge. The Green knight begins to mock King Arthur into taking the challenge. Arthur, not wanting to show weakness in front of his knights at the round table, he takes up the challenge. Sir Gawain stands up, asking if he may take the challenge. "The lord proposes that he will go out to hunt each day while Gawain stays at the castle. At the end of the day, they will exchange what they have won." (A direct quote from the book) Sir Gawain agreed to this proposition and on the first day, castle's lord hunts a herd of does. The Mistress of the castle, the Lord's wife, tried to seduce Sir Gawain. He refused, her advances like he was respecting her honor, as well as the lord's. Another sign of chivalry. 3 days passed, each day, the lady rewarded him with a kiss, which was traded for the Lord's catches. On the final day however, she offered him a girdle. He didn't tell the Lord of the castle about the girdle and went on his merry way. This is the first instance in this story, Sir Gawain broke the code of chivalry. Gawain showed up at the Green Chapel on the designated day. He calls out to the Green Giant, bearing his neck to this axe-wielding knight. Gawain flinches at the first swing, which was a feign. The Green Knight feigns another blow before swinging a final time, leaving only a nick on Gawain's neck, drawing blood. Gawain confessed after learning that the Lord of the Castle was the Green Knight. He gained his honor back after being honest and conveying his true feelings to the Knight.
