Wartime Reconstruction: Land and Labor – Due to the North winning the war the South went though a huge change with land and labor. The Freedmen’s bureau smoothed the transition from slave to free man. The African American Quest for Autonomy – Everything the blacks were deprived of they wanted, that was what freedom was to them. Presidential Reconstruction: Johnson’s Program of Reconciliation –Though President Johnson strongly believed in slavery, but he didn’t fight for secession. Expansion of Federal Authority and Black Rights – Freedman’s Bureau Bill and The Civil Rights Act of 1866, bills meant to secure blacks freedoms, were vetoed by Johnson.
