The film "The Prize" is a documentary film that based on the book "The Prize" by Daniel Yergin. The title of the fourth episode "The Prize" is called war and oil, the main idea of this episode is cover the role of oil during the World War II, and the point that first mentioned in the video is that oil was an determine factor for the World War II result. This paper will cover some of the major historical event that mentioned in the film. The World War II began in 1939, the video said the oil was the untold story of World War II, it is because in the time of 1939, people went on war with a lot of high technology stuff like planes and tanks, and those war machines all require large amount of oil to move. In the summer of 1914, Germany attacked Britain, at the beginning, it seemed that Germany will take another victory after the war against French. Since the United States helped Britain, the American had oil in their land and they could find it, they supplied Britain pure oil which provides more power to the spitfires. Japan, a country that is lack of oil and raw materials, no coal and oil, and the United States was supplying around eighty percents of Japan oil. The Japanese did not want to get control by the United States, they wanted to be a upper class nations and have their own oil supply, so they decided to invade and dominate other weaker nations in south east Asia which had oil supply- China and Dutch East India. The Dutch East India is a place that have great amount of oil and natural resources, the Japanese believed that if they can get the oil supply in Dutch East India, they will no longer controlled by the United States. After the Japanese invaded China, the American public was shocked by the behaviors of the Japanese, the Americans went on a protest for cutting off Japan 's oil supply. After the United States froze the Japanese fund, Japan was not able to buy American oil. This action provoked the Japanese and they decided to attack the United States ' Pearl Harbor, where a concentration place of oil tanks and the United States military. But the Japanese only bombed the United States army, they were not focusing on the oil tanks, because the Japanese wanted the oil, they sent troops to invade Pearl Harbor after the attacks, and trying to conquer the oil. The United States was a strong nation, but the Japanese was dare to fights against a strong nation because of the oil. This shows the oil is very important
