Think of your life right now. What are you currently doing in your life? Worrying about school, studying for tests or exams, having fun, playing sports, listening to music and most of all enjoying your life. And then suddenly. You need to know about politics. Who are you going to vote for? What if you know absolutely nothing about politics? What are you going to do? All these questions start piling on top of each other and they leave you constantly worrying about something that you should not have to worry about until you are 18. A voting age is a minimum age that by law, a person must reach to be able to vote in a public election. Typically, the age is set at 18 years, however, ages as low as 16 and as high as 21 exist.The current minimum voting age in Australia is 18 years of age. 16 and 17-year-olds cannot legally gamble, get a tattoo, buy alcohol, appear in an adult court, and many other things, so why should they be able to vote? It just doesn't make sense. It's inconsistent. 72% of respondents in the 2010 Australian Election Study stated that the voting age should "definitely stay at 18", so this proves that many people agree the voting age should stay at 18.

In conclusion, Australia is among the highest in the world to oppose the voting age being lowered, currently at 90%. Lowering the voting age is not a good idea as 16 and 17-year-olds lack political knowledge and engagement, are highly influenced by those around them and allowing them to vote would be very inconsistent.
