Voodoo is a different religion for people to understand and practice. Voodoo has been around since the days of trading of African slaves and believed to have begun in Haiti. Voodoo has always had a negative view amongst the general population of the world. This is believed to be because of the magic and different rituals that are practiced. We can see the nervousness of others as they learn about voodoo because it is a snake cult that worships to many daily life experiences. Voodoo became widespread as more and more slaves were sold and traded to many different regions of the world. Voodoo reached the Louisiana area around 1804. Catholics have many ceremonies, prayers and layers that will allow them to become eternal and one with good. Even Catholics can create potions or spells to assist with certain ceremonies of exorcising demons or ridding of negative energy. Voodoo has a similar way of doing things. “The priesthood of voodoo is held by both men and women. There are stages of initiation into its priestly duties. Their functions are primarily: healing, rituals, religious ceremonies to call or pacify the spirits, holding initiations for new priests or priestesses, telling fortunes, reading dreams, casting spells, invoking protections, and creating potions for various purposes.” (All About God, …show more content…

We all create ties with people and always feel down to hear of someone from a community or group that passes away. Most religions have a typical ritual or practice that is practiced allowing the soul of the body and for the body to move on to another world, dimension, or become resurrected for something else in the future. Voodoo beliefs have a very broad way of doing things and beliefs. Many versions of the Voodoo religion believe that once a person has passed the spirit continues to live on to an afterlife. The person who passed has continuous energy that allows the energy to become a universal life force. When this person dies, the essence of the soul lingers near the corpse for seven to nine days. If a ritual is performed and caught by the a sorcerer then a the soul is made into a “spiritual zombie”. If the soul is not captured by the sorcerer, a priest or priestess performs a ritual called Nine Night to separate the body so the soul can live in dark waters for a year and a day. “When one dies, the soul essence hovers near the corpse for seven to nine days.
