Violence in Mass Media Violence is everywhere and in everything from what we see to what we hear. Today’s society has become acquainted with the violence in video games, tv shows, movies, and music since it is everywhere but many have become too attached to this violence and brought it to real life. Many assume that getting rid of this violence is essential to a more passive and peaceful society but there are more benefits to the portail of violence that society sees today and one of the most targeted of the four is video games even though it has a balevolent past. One of the key items that people assume that is the reason children of this society are more violent, is video games but they started as all things do, a harmless activity for fun. The first videogame was Pong and that was considered a fun game for everyone then to the game, Dungeons and Dragons, which had actual text and story and so on and after one of the most famous games, Legend of Zelda, games started to become more action packed and violent. Every game after Legend of Zelda started to become more violent, longer stories and better graphics in the 1980’s but when it hit the 1990’s, games started to become more 3-D and realistic. People fear that because they are becoming more realistic every year that when people play them, they will be so lost in the violence and story that they will drag it into real life like the Newtown shooter, who said that he used Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 video game to train before the shooting. Video games have changed a lot from the past and are more immersive and graphically superior than ever before and because of that people see only the bad things that could come from it like the people who took it too far. What is interesting is if the show on any network except those that are allowed, show just a little too much cleavage or slip one bad word and that show can get cancelled even if it is the most popular show on television which is weird when in some shows like The Walking Dead, they have so much gore and violence yet they don’t use a single swear word or any form of the sexual kind happen and it is a show about the end of world where people could go crazy and swear and do anything they want. It is just ridiculous that they are so against language and sex so they can protect children from what they see yet they have no restriction on the violence they show that could easily mentally scar a kid for life even if the violence enhances the drama or story of a show that make people sit on the edge of their seat waiting to see what happens.

This shows that media violence can be linked to aggressive behavior and that violent media can affect the minds of some young children and teens. Studies in the past decade have helped prove that sometimes the media can be bad for kids. The outcome of playing first-person shooter games could end up in innocent lives dying like in Newtown.
