The war that challenged communism and took nearly 3 million lives, Vietnam. The 20 year long War started on November of 1955 and ended on April of 1975. This particular war first started when the Viet Cong government and the North Vietnamese were fighting to restore Vietnam. Not wanting communism to spread the United States got involved when the French requested them for help. The day the U.S. decided to help the Vietnamese is the day that it started costing them and until this day it's costing them.(Hardcastle,2005)

There's a group of people called Vietnam War Veterans. Vietnam Veterans are men and women who served in the Vietnam War and are still alive today. During the war American planes dropped seven million tons of weapons. But they didn't just drop weapons they dropped napalm and chemical defoliants, known as agent orange today. Not only did the napalm take lives, it ruined cities, farmland, and vegetation. After the war ended and the soldiers returned home and instead of being kindly welcomed like other soldiers of past wars they instead were received with a combination of embarrassment and indifferences. They had things thrown at them and they were called names such as “baby killers”.(Conatore,2016) They were harassed and abused by anti-war protesters. As if coming home wasn't difficult enough some veterans had a hard time adjusting to normal everyday life. Everyday life was hard for some veterans due to flashbacks and not yet adjusting but others it was because of health reasons. Many of the Vietnam veterans were struck with napalm and if their life wasn't taken by it that until this day suffer from it. The United states Government is still paying for the outcome that affected their soldiers during the Vietnam War. (Thompson,2008)(Southey,2008)

The Vietnam war had different outcomes for everyone involved. The war had both a positive and negative outcome for the United States of America. The outcome was more on the negative side than positive, the soldiers went in the stop the spread of communism and failed. It cost the U.S billions of dollars and millions of lives.(DeLeon,2014) The war taught us a “lesson” that getting out of war is way more complicated than getting into the war.
