How would you cope if you couldn’t take photographs of a special event, travel anywhere hastily, or even talk with someone who is in a different place than you? Luckily, the Victorian Era solved these problems, and exploited this technology as much as possible. Technology in the Victorian Era, such as photography, railroads, and communication, flourished due to many advancements in these fields. Photography flourished during the Victorian Era after many advancements. Photography was a very prestigious luxury, and was only available to loyalty or the rich. The start of the telegraph in Great Britain was thanks to the railroads. Along these railroads, telegraph wire would be hung. These telegraphs were used to communicate between railroad stations, for controlling signaling and sending messages. As the technology of the telegraph expanded, it was prevalent in many areas around the country. One ship also made the spread of this network international. The Great Eastern laid telegraph wire along the Atlantic, giving the power of quick communication to nations across the sea. This sparked a worldwide development of international communication, as many countries obtained their own telegraphs. However, just around this time, Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone. This enabled people to actually speak with others that weren’t in the same room. By 1887, there were 26,000 telephones in Britain. Even further at the end of the 19th century, came radios. These enabled even better worldwide communications because there weren’t any wires that had to connect the sending and receiving end.
