A victim rights advocate anticipates numerous guarantees and safeguards from members within the criminal justice process to ensure to a victim's safety and prevent further victimization. To begin with probation and parole officers are required to ensure that offenders are adhering to the conditions of their supervision, which is essential to the rehabilitation process of the offender and the victim's piece of mind. Furthermore, once an offender has completed his or her sentence, victims want probation and parole officers to protect them from harassment and harm (Karmen, 2016). Additionally, when restitution is a condition of the offender's supervision then the probation or parole officer should provide the victim with regularly scheduled payments from the offender (Karmen, 2016). Also, as a victim rights advocate, I feel if the offender is not complying with conditions of their supervision, then the officer should revoke the offender's supervision. Since we are aware of the victim's expectations of probation and parole officers, let us examine corrections officials' roles pertaining to the victim's safety. …show more content…

In addition to incarceration, corrections officials should inform victims of inmates' whereabouts, parole board appearances, and release dates, which is legislative minimum most states (Karmen, 2016). Furthermore, if a prisoner escapes or is on work release, then corrections officials should develop safety plans protect the victim from retaliation until the offender is apprehended (Karmen, 2016).
