Various Child-rearing Practices and their Impact Upon Children

The relationship between a child and his parents is of most importance when the child is at the age when his mind is beginning to develop. The type of relationship can determine the child’s character for years to come. While children interacting with parents differently might not convey the idea that it will affect their personalities when they grow up, however, from personal experience, I found that this is very much true. Child rearing is one of the important responsibilities of parents; while discussing each role of parents in contributing to the child’s personality, I plan to discuss the effect of different methods on the personality of children.

Before we come to the issue of the methods of child rearing, one must examine who is doing the child rearing; thus one must examine the role of parents in child rearing. What is the role of each of the parents in child rearing and what is its importance? These responsibilities are as simple as tasks around the house and are difficult as the support and emotion all kids must experience when growing up. Although it may seem that both have to show emotion and tenderness towards the kids, each parent upholds a role in developing one side of the child’s personality.

The mother, which gives birth to the child, will give and teach the child love and care by doing the same to him. The child’s only source of knowledge for love and feelings will be his mother, which will care, love him and stand by him for the rest of his life. “Within the ‘magic circle’ of mother and child, the mother devotes herself to her child’s needs and holds her child’s fate in her hands.” (Newman 344).

Child parenting is one of the most difficult jobs for parents. Every detail will reflect on their child’s personality, especially the choice of “developmental” and “disciplinary” rearing. However, I feel that this secondary information used in this essay will not be enough to emphasize anything noticeable. Thus the use of more primary information such as interviews and questionnaire will help broaden the topic.
