Over the years many changes in health care have been made. One major change would be the creation of vaccines. With the creation of vaccines is became possible to give preventative treatment for a variety of diseases rather than treating a patient after they have already been exposed to the disease. Vaccines are essential for increasing the number of people who are protected against infectious diseases. As more and more people are vaccinated, the likelihood of a widespread outbreak becomes less likely. Even those who have not received the vaccination will have a less likely chance of contracting the disease because the majority of the population has been immunized. WHO (2011) describes the things that are necessary in order to have an effective program. There must be funding in order to the staffing that is required, infrastructure, as well as being able to purchase the vaccinations. With less people getting developing these diseases, there will be savings in the long run, as well as growth in the economy. WHO (2011) found that it was estimated that in 2003 there was a savings of tens of billions of dollars in direct savings. Pfizer (2014) explains that as long as vaccinations are given during the U.S. Center for Disease and Prevention’s suggested scheduling period, there it is much more likely that morbidity and mortality will be prevented. If this is done properly, the health care system will save millions of dollars each year in both direct and indirect costs. As more vaccines are developed, the costs will continue to be cut. And as vaccines are being used more and more to prevent diseases, therefore eventually causing the disease to occur less frequently, the costs will be reduced for both patients and the health care system. It is very necessary to continue the funding for discovery and development of newer vaccines, as well as finding treatment for diseases that do not currently have a vaccination. Pfizer (2014) gives
