As an advisor to the Mayor of New York, to address recurrent corruption problems within the department, it is I recommending an oversight strategy based on the various approaches to address those issues by increasing the use of special prosecutors with police misconduct investigations. It is heavily relied on by local police officers to make interrogate suspects, investigate cases, arrests, and at trials to testify. With police officers relying the prosecutors to turn their arrests into convictions and help with investigations; it is in some cases involving alleged police misconduct that questions about prosecutors’ sympathies for the defendant, thus leaving sympathies that may prevent the prosecutor as an effective advocate for the state in prosecutions in dealing with cases.
The bias in the system that has led to the destruction of trust that is needed to help build a strong public safety between the local communities and law enforcement, by suggesting that such alternatives should be considered.

The day-to-day operations of police departments across the country are largely handled at the state and local level. The federal government does have a role in local policing, primarily through the provision of federal funding for law enforcement for a variety of programs such as crime deterrence initiatives, hiring of officers, purchasing equipment, training, and creation of cross-jurisdiction task forces (Jawando, Michele L. and Parsons, Chelsea).
