UVM Statement of Purpose: Rachel Hill

It's easy to remember back when I was a senior in high school being faced with a decision of where to pursue my college career. It was an enormous and somewhat daunting decision, as I knew from living only in Vermont, I wanted to reach out beyond State boundaries. I attended the University of Rhode Island. My freshman year was filled with amazing experiences and I did well academically, however, it wasn’t the right school for me. I transferred to the University of Vermont with hopes of a greater cohesive atmosphere and learning environment, and for the next three years, I got that and so much more.
Having attended URI and studied abroad for a semester in Australia, I have experienced other universities and formed a sense of comparison. I found UVM provided the best professors, classes, advising, campus environment, opportunities, and holds great professional accreditation. These aspects have been powerful influences during my undergraduate experience at UVM, more specifically, unleashed an unequivocal desire to learn more. I have enjoyed all my undergraduate professors. That being said, I'd like to draw attention to two academic professors who have greatly influenced my desire to learn and stirred my ambitions to continue my education. Professor's Shamila Lekka and Mark Starrett taught amazing courses, were enthusiastic about the subject matter, and incorporated updated and exciting research within the field. Professor Lekka sparked my interest towards the attachment theory and Professor Starrett introduced me to therapeutic horticulture.
