Throughout the summer, I worked hand and hand with the amazing UNICEF staff and partners to not only collect, analyze and distribute pertinent data, but also to survey and assess the current needs of the community and the target population. This was successfully completed through data review, in depth interview and focus group. Using tis s information along with the help of my amazing supervisor, Novia Condell, I was able to successfully complete inception reports for the partnering organization of Children First. The results showed that there was significant need to address HIV/AIDS within the adolescent homosexual community as well as socioeconomic factors within this key population. Thus, a new yet sustainable three-month program for the youth and adolescent MSM community within the Kingston and surrounding areas was created. A needs assessment and focus group was created and analyzed in order to ensure program efficiency and success. With the help of the Children First staff, a comprehensive and interactive intervention program was created to address not only HIV/AIDS and adolescent health, but also life skills, physical wellness, spiritual wellness and occupational …show more content…

The first goal of intervention is for Precious to gain access to health care, and health care related resources so that she can mange HIV symptoms. Along with access to health care, Precious also seeks to gain access to emotional and mental health supportive resources to cope with her chronic illness. As a means of intervention, I will assist Precious by providing health care resources. I will aid in filling out application for Medicaid and follow up with patient to assist if necessary when her primary care physician is established. To further Precious’ access to care, I will provide her with resources for Powerful Youth, a program that provides health and physiological services for HIV positive young people. In addition to programs that provide HIV drug therapy and medical care, Powerful Youth incorporates HIV support group meeting. According to research in regards to the Powerful Youth, the program is used in conjunction with primary care settings and has been shown to reduce stress, expand social support, and improve emotional health, reduces HIV related risks, enhances medical adherence, and provide coping strategies (Solórzano & Glassgold, 2010). The Powerful Youth program is a culturally relevant because the program exists within the client’s own culture. The program is located in Precious’ current neighborhood, and it designed to reach people within her ethnic and age demographic. In
About UNICEF, I expected that it was just responsible for focusing on the needs and rights of the child over the world. In fact, its aim was more than that it was also to promote the equal rights of women and girls and to support their full participation in the political, social, and economic development of their communities. In instance, celebrating annually the International Day of the Girl Child on October 11 to highlight issues concerning the gender inequality facing young girls. In addition, the organization 's extent is much wider than I anticipated. For example:
...litical group and given a proper change in Kenya, a new political schema. This was the goal of one of the very first gay activists who formed the recently disbanded Forum for Positive Generations on AIDS Prevention. Its intention was to increase social awareness and understanding towards people with AIDS and to emphasize and relieve the plight or marginalized groups such as homosexuals with AIDS. Studies have shown that homosexual behavior within the normal is being ignored, but in light of all the recent events, despite the negative approach, people will begin to take thought of the very real existence of the gay and lesbian community that exists. The fight for equality will continue and there shall come a day when people can identify themselves as who they are openly and being gay or practicing same-sex intercourse will be an acceptable part of society in Kenya.
Volunteers - these are the people who go out and provide the support, they are very important as they don’t work for money, so this helps the financial side of UNICEF. The volunteers also can have a key important influence into the final outcome of UNICEF as they are the ones that are physically providing the service.
The tactical plan of United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) management must describe how the organizations goals will be met and by when. It must also entail plans to help assure ethical business practices throughout UNICEF. The success of these goals will depend on the quality of there programs, information, communication, advocacy and the excellence of their internal management and operations. UNICEF management must hold them selves accountable to do all that they can for the success of their goals by planning, monitoring, evaluating, and reporting to achieve the results in the five major areas to change the world to serve the best interest of the child.
