Diabetes can affect anyone. There are many types of diabetes, but the two main types of diabetes are Type 1 and Type 2. Type 1 Diabetes is hereditary, and Type 2 Diabetes is something you can get later in life. Having either type of diabetes drastically affect people’s lives because they have to look after many things: their health, their diet, and etc. In the United States, there are more than 86 million pre-diabetic Americans and nine out of ten do not know that they are pre-diabetic (2014 National Diabetes Statistics Report). With this being said, in order for people to keep up or switch to a healthier lifestyle, it is necessary to educate people on this topic and how diabetes can affect you or your close one.

There are many ways to educate people on diabetes. Many people do not know what diabetes is or how someone can get it. For people to get inform about diabetes, people can do online research, read books, and go to their doctor. There is internet access everywhere nowadays, and people can easily access the internet by pulling out their phone or going on their computer. In order to prevent/treat diabetes, it is necessary to find a doctor who specialized in diabetes such as an endocrinologist, and it is best to find someone who will give you the best information and are able to see you as soon as possible (Your Health Care Team). People with diabetes need attentive care, and with an endocrinologist, they are able to get the most updated information. In addition to medical care, people with diabetes need a system they feel supported and empowered. As stated, people with diabetes are put down due to their health condition.
