HBO is a program that has amazing shows. For my culture and identity on television paper, I decided to pick True Blood which was a popular tv show on HBO running from 2008-2014. True Blood is a vampire series which takes place in Bon Temps, a small town in southern Louisiana. The series follows Anna Paquin the protagonist who is “Sookie Stackhouse” in the series, through a supernatural world where she fights to survive another day in a culture where racism, power, and sexual desires controls her society. For my paper I will be analyzing the first three episodes from season six. I chose to do these episodes because there is so much going on between three different groups. At the same time, there’s a lot of love triangles and relationships happening throughout the show with every regular character. However there is a lot of racial prejudice and discrimination towards the vampires by humans. Some of the vampires are protecting humans and don't want to harm them so they drink something called “True Blood” which is a synthetic blood. Other vampires see humans as food only and want to dominate the human race. There is a cultural power relationship going on between some characters. For example when the gay character Lafayette encounters a vampire, he is always looked down upon. There is also a dominance factor between male and female. There’s a relationship between two vampires Eric and Pam. Eric always controls Pam and tells her what to do, although she is capable of taking care of herself and when she try’s to talk back his voice and attitude become stronger showing her that he is in charge. This is also shown with a relationship between a girl vampire named Jess and Sookie’s brother Jason. Jason always tries to take care of Jess in every situation even though she is stronger and faster than he
