The motifs in Divergent are frequent and powerful. One motif in the book, is, Tris is a divergent. Other motifs are that, Peter and his friends are cowards, and that Four (Tobias) completes Tris. These motifs represent who Tris is as a person. Beatrice being Divergent is “dangerous” to the society. Her Divergence is considered dangerous because they do not follow one specific faction. Tris for example was born in Abnegation, which is the faction revolving around being selfless; Tris leaves the faction for Dauntless, where the initiates are outgoing and free, which is what she wants. While Tris is in Dauntless she realizes that her being in her new faction has brought out her Abnegation side. This happens when Page 203 is when Edward gets stabbed …show more content…

This is evidence that Peter and Drew are cowards because they were so nervous that Drew was going to get kicked out they made someone factionless. Lastly Four (Tobias) completes Tris. Tris doesn't want to feel anything but with Four she lets down her walls so that he will come in and help her. Tris and Tobias connect at both being from Abnegation and moving to Dauntless, but they are what they need. Four can not be Four without Tris and visa versa. Over all Divergent is a great book full of character and meaning. It shows the way society is today and how we are afraid of the different people. Divergent is full of motifs, but these stood out the most. These motifs stood out because they create who Tris is and who she becomes. With being divergent it is showing that society doesn’t want difference. Peter and his posse being rude to Tris and her friends proves they are afraid, that is what bullies do.
