Col. Robert Gould Shaw “It is a great pleasure to see you all here today. It is my hope that the same courage, spirit, and honor, which has brought us together, will one day restore this Union. May God bless us all.” Col. Shaw had hope that he would lead his regiment to victory. The movie Glory is a dramatic representation of the Civil Wa. Col. Shaw is tasked with the job of training the first African-American regiment for war. The men went through intense training fortunately when the men went to battle they proved themselves victorious. Thomas faces many challenges with other, society, and themselves. Throughout the movie Trip and thomas are in a constant conflict. Trip is always trying to make Thomas life harder than it has to be. An example of this is when block Thomas path, because of this Thomas tell him to move. Trip reacts by saying that Thomas can talk like a white man, act like a white man, and dress like a white man, but Thomas will never be a white man and the white man will never value him like everyone else. Thomas was the only African-American that lived free his whole life. In addition to being free he also has an education. The other men in the regiment were escaped slaves and has no education. Thomas is a natural enemy because he is different and is more educated. An example of thomas conflict with society is when Trip calls Thomas out. Trip say Thomas was not like them because they don’t fit in with white people. In addition to this Thomas is not as physically fit or willing as the other men.
