Feminism has been a strong movement since about a hundred of years ago, and is still present today. This play is based on the murder of Minnie Wright’s husband, and the way she was treated that led to his death. Mr.Wright and Minnie’s relationship shows how men were in control in this era. The women play a domestic role in the 1900s expresses a feminist view. The way the women in the play are treated by the men shows how men discredited women. In the play “Trifles” by Susan Glaspell the theme of feminism is showed through Minnie and Mr.Wrights relationship, women and their domestic role in this era, and how the women in the play are belittled. One of the most important key points of this is when Mr. Hale says “Well, women are used to worrying over trifles” (Glaspell 636). Hs view is that women don't talk or worry about anything worth talking about, they all just worry over nothing. That’s how men viewed most women thoughts throughout the majority of the 1900s. The sheriff makes a remark making fun of the ladies when they were talking about making a quilt he says “they wonder if she was going to quilt it or just not it” (Glaspell 640). The men were laughing at the women because there was a murder investigation going on, but they are talking about quilting when really that was the motive the men were missing to prove their case. When Mrs. Hale defends Minnie over the kitchen not being kept the Attorney exclaims “Ah, loyal to your sex” (Glaspell 637). He just assumes that she is being loyal to her sex, when she was trying to prove a point. All the women in the play were treated the same, the men belittled their thoughts and abilities.
