The main characters from “The Treasure of Lemons Brown” and “The Moustache” resemble and contradict each other.

Two people with two completely different characteristics have something alike. Both Dally and Johnny are mentally tough because of their parents. For example, during Dally’s childhood he went to jail, been in a gang, and has been in many fights and his dad still would not care for him even if he won the lottery. Once Ponyboy was witnessing, “Johnny take a whipping with a two-by-four from his old man”(33). Ponyboy talks about how loud and mean Johnny's mom is and,“you can...

The setting will affect any character to show their most basic tendencies and no matter what, the setting plays a huge role in the way that any character acts. One will realize that it might not be that the characters’ fault that they act the way they do, but the surroundings that they are forced into.

In social studies class, we are reading a book called Our America. The book is about two African- American teens that grow up in the Chicago Homes Projects. They show their lifestyles and the way that they live. As they are growing up they show how they have to persevere through tough times in where they live at. During their time as reporters they come across a case where a 5 year old boy was thrown out of a 14 story project home close to where they live at by two 10 and 11 year olds because he did not steal candy for them. The book and the movie have similar and different ways of showing and describing the case. In the book Our America compared to the movie, they have similarities and differences through plot, characters, and other events.
However, due to the narration of the books being different both books have different effects on the reader. Andrea narrates in a disengaged way where she doesn’t want the reader to sympathise for her but to listen to the struggles she went through as she uses a childlike lexicon narration, written in a curt way showing her stoicism. One the other hand, Masters narrates in a self-deprecating and adds humour to Stuarts misfortunes. Masters narrates in third person however he does the unusual that doesn’t happen in biographies and adds his own opinions in the book making himself a character as well. In “The Treasure of Lemon Brown” by Walter Dean Myers, Greg is mad at his dad because he won’t let Greg play basketball due to his failing math grade, so he goes to the old tenement building and meets Lemon Brown, an old homeless man, who is protecting his treasure from a group of thugs. After fighting them off, Lemon Brown shows Greg his treasure- a beaten up harmonica and some old newspaper clippings. He explained that his son died in the war and the military sent back what he was carrying at the time, which was these items. They represented the good ol’ days and his late son, which was more important to him than money. Although some items may not be worth anything to most, it is worth something to someone because of the good memories attached to the item.
Looking at the differences of Father Brown and Brother Cadfael, one notices how the authors distinctly gave them certain unique attributes. The differences not only came out through the plot and style, but also in the way they handled situations. Their different views on man, crime solving skills, and motivations gave them each definite personalities.
One difference between Elizabeth and the lawyer was their skin color. Elizabeth was African American woman, while the lawyer was a white man. Another difference between them is their pride. The lawyer was proud of himself because he had a good job and was not in the lowest social class. Elizabeth on the other hand had no pride in herself or her family. She was poor as well but felt as if she was way below everyone else she knew. Elizabeth also got very frustrated and angry at parts in the story like when she destroyed Miss Lottie’s flowers just because she was not living the life that she wanted. When she was angry, Elizabeth took it out on other people instead of trying to cope with the situation. A quote that shows how Elizabeth like to take her anger out on other people is“The idea caught on at once, for annoying Miss Lottie was always fun.” The lawyer did get angry at the banker but he did not take it out on other people but rather challenged him to show everyone that he was right. The quote “Agreed! You stake your millions and I stake my freedom!” shows that the lawyer will do anything, even give up fifteen years of his life, just to prove himself and his point. The last example that showed contrast between the characters was their personality at the beginning of the story. Elizabeth started out as an immature and childish little girl. As for the lawyer, he started out as a self involved and very selfish man. Both started out very differently and eventually grew into a better version of themselves. Race, gender, beginning personalities, pride, and dealing with situations is what made Elizabeth and the lawyer
