This is where is impossible becomes the possible. The famous actress Kate del Castillo does not have the word impossible in her vocabulary when it comes to achieving her goals. One goal Kate wanted to achieve is to question not only the largest cartel leader in the world but also the Mexican government. On Kate del Castillo’s journey to interviewing El Chapo, an actor Sean Penn joins along to write an article for the Rolling Stones. However, the interview did not fall onto the actor’s front door step without a little push from Kate. Kate continues to be transgressive by tweeting, “I don’t believe in marriage. I believe in love.” This is transgressive because she is going against norms and challenging dominant ideologies of getting married to a husband by stating, “I don’t believe I have to be with someone for the rest of my life.” Kate continues to tweet, “Today, I believe more in El Chapo than the governments that hide truths from me, even though they are painful.” In this statement Kate purposefully made this statement to compare the Mexican government to the largest drug cartel leader who owns brothels and sells women equivalent to a pack of cigarettes. This is also another form of transgression because who else is criticising the Mexican government and El Chapo. The purpose to rocking the boat is to question the Mexican government on their actions in the small town San Jose del Barranco that is near the city Sinaloa. The Mexican military showed their weapons to instill fear in the public, they shot a young man, the women were stripped naked. They spoke of Kate as if she was a subject criticizing her personally instead of reading deep into the tweet discussing the main message. In the documentary “The Day I Met El Chapo” the director included interviews from Kate’s friends and other officials such as a retired DEA agent. The retired DEA agent, Hector Berrellex states, “El Chapo is a violent serial killer and nobody should be honoring him to include Kate del Castillo.” Instead of reading her tweet and noticing that her intent was to criticise El Chapo and the Mexican government at the same time. These opposing views towards Kate and the tweet she made are a common reaction towards any form of change. One example would be Rosa Parks, she did not move from the front of the bus for a white person because she had every right to sit there. The reaction to her transgression was jail time for not obeying the law. Kate’s transgression resulted in the media putting a magnifying glass on Kate, her family, friends, and the dangers from criticising the largest cartel leader. The Mexican government opposed Kate’s tweet by harming her career as an actress, and preventing her from visiting anywhere in Mexico.
