Transgender Rights How do you feel about the word Transgender? There are multiple different opinions on the topic ranging from hate to the point of homicide and unconditional acceptance. However, being as the topic is based on the challenging of our current society’s integrity there are people who would oppose giving transgender people equity in rights. Some people fight the rights of a Transgender person by demeaning them to a small percent or marginalizing, some will try to ensue proper debate on semantics and some claim fact without evidence. As a person standing with center-left political beliefs, I can safely say with assurance that transgender people need more rights and protections as of now to show country equity. According to The Movement Advancement Project (MAP) “The basic American Bargain is that people who work hard and meet their responsibilities should be able to get ahead” and moreover “... instead of having a fair chance to get ahead, transgender workers are often held back by bias and unequal workplace benefits. Even though 77% of voters say they support protecting transgender people from discrimination in employment, no federal law provides explicit legal protections for transgender workers based on gender identity/expression”. In reference to just workplaces, there are no legal protections for Transgender people which leads to equity. Equity, defined by Merriam-Webster dictionary is “justice according to natural law or right; specifically : freedom from bias or favoritism” not to be confused with equality, “the quality or state of being equal”. Specifically I am speaking of equity in rights. Transgender people currently of course have basic human rights and therefore cannot be, say, killed without the murderer being prosecuted; However there are no current laws in place, as stated by MAP, for transgender people to have an equal quality of life as someone who is not
