Tony Soprano. American TV Hero, Crime Boss, Star of HBO’s hit TV series, The Sopranos, and the greatest TV character of all time. Featured as the Star of The Soprano’s, airing from 1999 to 2007, Tony Soprano consistently captured the attention of the United States of America, and the world, with his cold and calculating facade, and coving the warm, family man that Tony Soprano actually is. Tony Soprano, the Capo of the Italian Mafia, murderer, husband and father, and violent sociopath, is the greatest character to ever appear on small screen media (television). Soprano has left a legacy for future TV Crime Shows, as well as made a remarkable impact on how the world views the famous Criminal Underground Mafia’s. Throughout the show, Tony has been seen to display very prominent family values. Tony, a biological father of two and guardian of his nephew, has shown the ability to go to any lengths to protect his family, including murdering his own mother, cousin, nephew, and partner in crime for the sake of his crime or actual family. It is beyond impossible to believe that a man with such loose limitations on what he can sacrifice for his greater good can also show unbelievable levels of insight and compassion for his family and yet Tony Soprano pulls off this difficult contradiction of moral character deftly. It may, when it occurred, have been Tony’s most moving scene, but it was topped by the wrenching, unforgettable episode in which AJ tried to commit suicide in his parents’ pool. Tony, seeing it just in time, threw down the sandwich he was eating, jumped in and rescued him. His first reaction after fishing the boy out was to shake him and say angrily, “What’s wrong with you?” His next was to ask: “Are you alright?” And his third was to break down in tears, hold him and say, over and over, “Oh, my baby.” In a way, it brought father as well as son back from the brink. Tony, who the previous week had murdered his surrogate son, Chris (as he possessed a threat to Tony’s life), now saved his real one.” (Cushman) Although Mr. Soprano committed a horrible act when he murdered his mother, and other members of his family, biological or otherwise, Tony has managed to show his rare, but powerful, compassionate side. When saving his son, Tony not only breaks down that hardened criminal persona that he is famously known for, but he shows compassion and care for his son that we never have seen Tony show for anyone.
