Most teenage students, when given the option, will choose not to share their opinions with their class. This is due to the fact that most teens are self conscious and afraid of being wrong. Once a student becomes confident in themselves they can grow as a student and as a person. Confidence is a key factor in any type of personal growth, no matter who it is. In the short story “Celeste's Heart” author, Aida Bortnik, generates a reflective tone, through diction and characterization, to show that self confidence is necessary for personal growth.
Bortnik introduces a reflective tone through diction. When Celeste is putting her younger brother to bed, she begins to visualize what school will be like for him. The narrator tells readers, “she suddenly imagined him in the middle of the school yard, with his arm stretched out...tense, feeling cold and angry and afraid”(65). The word “imagined” from the quote creates a reflective tone. It shows that Celeste is thinking about how her brother's school experience will affect him. And what could happen if she does not attempt to make a change...
The last semester of my junior year was mind boggling. I had the amazing opportunity to see First Wave perform at the national Keystone Conference in Orlando, Florida. In awe and inspired, at how poetry, music, storytelling, and hip-hop combined to tackle issues such as conformity and peer pressure. Not only did I want to be a part of the program, I wanted to graduate from the school that they attended as well. To be incorporated in a group of people with strong, creative minds will expose me to how other people view the world and give me experiences that I would not have the opportunity to have anywhere else.
Both passages concern the same topic, the Okefenokee Swamp. Yet, through the use of various techniques, the depictions of the swamp are entirely different. While Passage 1 relies on simplicity and admiration to publicize the swamp, Passage 2 uses explicitness and disgust to emphasize the discomfort the swamp brings to visitors.

Spirituals were the first true form of Negro expression in the form of music. Marshall W. Steams, Professor of English Literature at Hunter College states that “The spiritual was created out of nowhere by a sort of spontaneous combustion of Negro’s genius” (125). This mixture of hymns and instrumental instruction took form into one of the most versatile genres known to date, Jazz.

English Composition II has unexpectedly improved my writing into an academic level. As I studied various English reading and writing courses, this class “English Composition II” did not immediately caught my eye. However as I researched about the concepts of this class, the decision to make was not so difficult since I was lacking in critical thinking and the interpretation of works. Also as a Business Major, it made sense that the subject of English would be of interest to me and as a career requirement. I learned that I thought, that I had more Self-awareness (chapter two) then I actually do. I always thought that my self-awareness was good until I realized what it really was. Self- awareness makes you ask the question who am I? allowing you to view yourself as a unique person and to reflect on your thoughts, feelings and behaviors. I realized that I had a lot of learning to do. For example; when I was in high school, I thought that the reason I didn't do well was because of the hard ships that I was going through but in reality it was because I wasn't aware that my ability to work hard and study was slacking. This surprises many people, I have always been told that I am a good optimistic person, but unfortunately all I saw was my flaws and problems making me have very little self-esteem. However, through this year and my classes I gained two things that improved my self-esteem very much. There are many issues with mass communication, some that we have complete control over and other issues that we don’t have any control over. Either way they are issues that we see everyday and its important to be informed on the issues as well as know some ways to ignore or prevent these issues from popping up in our everyday life. We can’t prevent all the issues with mass communication but we can certainly spread the word about them in hopes to end them all together. Two major issues that I know have been popular all over the world are television violence affecting children’s behavior and cyberbullying through social media websites. These two issues are very similar and in some ways can affect one another. Children can pick up violence on television and use that violence against peers on social media websites. This cycle has gotten increasingly worse over the years and its important to be informed so that this violence through mass communication can end all together.
Creativity is a hard phenomenon to be measured, for it is a complex concept that encompasses a lot of domains; it is not specific to a certain field, rather it is manifested in different ways. Throughout the years, researches have tried to come up with a variety of methods to assess the occurrence and the development of the creative abilities individuals possess, each depending on a different perspective.
