The setting of this story took place Boston, Massachusetts 1727. The theme of this story is intertwined. As soon as tom meet the old scratch his life starts to fall apart. he didn't take the deal which spites his wife but after his wife dies he accepts the deal and lives sorrowful and alone the remainder of his life. The protagonist of this story is Tom walker a man who lives an unhappy life with his wife who is just as unhappy as is his is. He is strongly enticing by the devils deal which sadly results in a downfall. His wife is a miserly woman. She also is tempted by the devils deal and brings all her valuables to compromise with the devil but it doesn't end quite well. Kidd was a famous pirate who buried his treasure in the Charles river bay. He made a deal with the devil to protect his prize possession but never came back for it. it remained unbothered until old scratch offers it to tom. The antagonist was the devil, Old Scratch. One day Tom encountered with the devil, Old Scratch. Old Scratch is a tall black man who made a deal with a famous pirate named Kidd to watch over his bounty but Kidd never came back for it. As Tom and Old scratch were talking he tried to make a deal with Tom which was giving Tom Kidd's treasures for toms soul, but Tom turns down the deal spite his wife. His wife finds the devil and tries to bargain with all her valuables and the devil takes the valuables and leaves her heart and liver in her apron hanging in a tree for tom to find. After tom found her remains her accepted the deal with the devil which leads him to a downfall where he lives miserably. At the end of the story, his remorse doesn't change his
