The setting of this story took place Boston, Massachusetts 1727. The theme of this story is intertwined. As soon as tom meet the old scratch his life starts to fall apart. he didn't take the deal which spites his wife but after his wife dies he accepts the deal and lives sorrowful and alone the remainder of his life. The protagonist of this story is Tom walker a man who lives an unhappy life with his wife who is just as unhappy as is his is. He is strongly enticing by the devils deal which sadly results in a downfall. His wife is a miserly woman. She also is tempted by the devils deal and brings all her valuables to compromise with the devil but it doesn't end quite well.
