Athlete’s foot also known as tinea pedis which is caused by fungal infections. In general, fungi grows in warm, moist areas the best. As athletes sweat excessively, the epidermis becomes softer and moist causing fungi to grow when the feet are not exposed to open air. In our everyday lives, trichophyton which is a dermatophyte is found on our floors and in clothing. Trichophyton falls under the fungi kingdom, phylum: ascomycota, class: euascomycetes, order: onygenales, and family: arthrodermactaceae.
