My chosen health behavior is eating because I want to start eating breakfast and want to moderate the amount of junk food I eat daily. In Health Psychology: An Introduction to Behavior and Health, it is discussed that the maintenance of weight depends on two factors, “the number of calories absorbed through food intake and the number expended through body metabolism and physical activity.” (Brannon, Feist, & Updegraff, 2014). Not considering other external or health problems, weight ultimately relies on the host and their behaviors. Everyone can adequately maintain their weight by moderating the types of food they consume as well as the physical activity they partake in. On Thursday, April 26 I ate the food I had packed that morning instead of buying my regular bagel at Phoenix Grill. And on Saturday, April 28 I attempted to have breakfast by eating a muffin and milk. It was not much of a surprise that I did not eat breakfast during my three-day observation because I rarely ever eat breakfast. However, I did notice that one main reason why I skip breakfast is because I am usually in a rush to leave to school. Brannon et al., emphasize that, “adolescents whose schools are located within half a mile of fast-food restaurant experience an increased likelihood of being overweight compared to those without a fast-food restaurant so close to their school.” (Brannon, Feist, & Updegraff, 2014). I am not overweight but, I am certainly not healthy. Yet, this statement became very clear to me while I was creating the coding sheet and noticed that I tend to eat a lot of junk and processed food when I am at school and with friends or family. For example, I do not worry about forgetting to pack lunch for school because I know that I have easy access to other foods, like Subway, Panda Express, and Chick-fil-A, since they are less than 3-5 minutes away from my classes. I also do eat more junk and processed foods during the weekends because I am surrounded by family members that like to eat out or have the occasional cook-out. For example, On Saturday night, I decided to eat at 11pm because I saw other people eating and was surrounded by food. I have low-self control and in some sense fell to peer pressure. And, not having ate since 5pm that day did not
