Throughout human history, Utopia is a word that have been eulogized as a community or society possessing highly desirable or perfect qualities. This idea has been promoted by Thomas More via his fiction work and political philosophy in 1516. Utopia, then, become a final goal of many people around the world. However, in the modern society, there are several problems, such as homelessness, domestic abuse, and poverty. Moreover, the gap between classes in the society is bigger, which have made More’s vision of perfection in society impossible to achieve. Therefore, our society is impossible to get close to the ideal world. In this world, “there is no private property”, “where everything’s under public ownership” and “everyone gets a fair share”, and “everyone is rich” (More, 666). More has described that “there the products of every household are collected in warehouses, and then distributed according to type among various shop” (More, 658). He also stated that the head of the household can come to any shop and pick up necessary things for his family “without any sort of payment” (More, 658). Moreover, the greediness in Utopia is zero because the product is always ready and excess the demand for everyone. However, the Utopia world of More is significantly impossible in our society. In other word, individual in our society works for their own benefits. The citizens in our society always desire to make more product and keep it for themselves rather than sharing it to others. Moreover, the individual will selectively hoard the potential or short supply product in order to gain more benefits by trading with much higher value. The most relevant example is Microsoft product. In particular, the founder created the official software, but they make benefits by charging on people who have a demand on using this product. More believed that people in Utopia does not need the laws because it “has not been subjected to any form of violence or deception” (More, pg.660). Utopia citizens also have a strong religious mind as they believe God will reward to anyone who can scarify themselves for community. Therefore, they have to consult not only their own interest, but also a moral duty to the community. However, our society is not that perfect. The modern society can work smoothly has to base on a strong regulatory structure in order to maximize the incorporation with people who prefer to gain the most benefits for themselves. In particular, our country has a complex politics and government system to control the social network ties between individuals or organizations, and shape the behavior of individuals within the social system. For example, in the macro scale, there are three main departments of the government, which will lead the whole country, including the department of issuing the laws, the department of practicing the laws, and the judge where can check the work of others. In the micro scale, our society has police department, where responses to ensure that every single citizens obey the laws and prevent crime, such as stealing goods from other citizens.
