The American that I picked to do my research paper on is Thomas Heyward Jr. This man had an impact on almost everything that had to do with America and getting its independence from England. A lot of people don’t really know Thomas Heyward Jr too well, but I have studied him a good bit in the past, because he was a big part in our history class. Why? Because our school is named after him. I go too Thomas Heyward Academy.
Thomas Heyward was young when America fought for its independence against England, but he was indeed a smart man, especially for his age. was born in 1746. He grew up to become one of the youngest signers of the Declaration of Independence, along with Thomas Lynch Jr. and Edward Rutledge. He traveled to Philadelphia just under the age of 30 for that important part in American history. Just like the other young signers of the Declaration of Independence, Thomas Heyward Jr. traveled to England to receive his education. In England he attended the Middle Temple in London beginning in 1765. After starting school, five years passed, at the end of those five years he was admitted to the bar in England. Later he returned home and became a lawyer after being admitted to the South Carolina bar in 1771. A year later, Heyward was elected to the Commons House of Assembly. He served as a delegate to the provincial convention that met in Charleston on July 6, 1774. He became a member of the Council of Safety, one of only 13, he served on both the first and second provincial congresses and played a huge role in preparing a new constitution for the state of South Carolina. As a member of the second provincial congress, he was able to appoint the committee of the eleven people that prepared the new constitution. This new constitution that was prepared finally became adopted on the day of March 26,
