The intricacy of this claim can be easily underestimated due to its simple arrangement. However in order to understand this claim one needs to realize that humans are creatures of habit, learning the difference between certain notions and concepts as they grow older. So any knowledge an individual obtains is heavily influenced by the views of the society in which said individual lives. Many times the truths and beliefs of one group of people is found to be vastly different from those of another group of people. The same notion goes for what people believe to be false as well.
Leonardo Da Vinci once said “Beyond a doubt truth bears the same relation to falsehood as light to darkness.” Da Vinci’s words imply that truth and falsehood are at opposite ends of the spectrum and that the presence of one requires the absence of the other. However, if falsehood and truth were like darkness and light, it would mean that it would be easier to distinguish between the two. To say that there are no absolute distinctions between what is true and what is false however, suggests that the two concepts are intertwined and embedded within the same element..
Although there is no fixed definition of the notion of “truth”, the website “TOKTalk.net” presents three theories that each give it a different meaning. The Correspondence Theory of Truth states that a statement is “true if it corresponds to (or reflects) reality”. For example, if one were to state, “It is snowing” the only way this could be considered a truth would be for it to actually be snowing outside. The second theory is the Coherence Theory of Truth, stating that a statement is “true if it is consistent with other things that are considered true (and do not contradict it)”. This...

...in response to Da Vinci’s statement that falsehood and truth go hand in hand. The only clear example one could provide of an absolute distinction between falsehood and truth, which would result in a consensus in the public, is presented in some math topics. Due to each human being having a different perception of reality, there is no one definition of truth that everyone agrees on, thus, it depends on an individual’s views on whether or not there are absolute distinctions between falsehood and truth. One could say that all propositions based on the claim are contingent, thus the truth or the falsity of the proposition can be evaluated in relation to the contingency that controls said proposition. One could disagree or agree with the claim, but that would have no affect on the claim being true or false as a whole, just the individual’s perception of what it means.
