The study of sociology has led to many theoretical perspectives regarding society. Each theory incorporates a different aspect and view of our society. Interactions occurring within our culture can be examined and correlations can be contrived. This paper takes a look at three types of sociological theories. Conflict and functionalist theory are two dominant perspectives within macrosociology. The conflict perspective stresses a need for social change to address inequality involving class, race, gender, and various other characterizations. Functionalist theory emphasizes the benefits of the various parts of society for ongoing social stability (Barkan, n.d.). A functional approach seeks to ensure social stability and advocates for the status qua.
Microsociology examines social interaction. Symbolic interactionism and utilitarianism are perspectives within microsociology. In these theories, norms, cultural values, laws, religion, social class, consciousness, and ideology are determining of social action of individuals and small groups (Uregina, 2003). I tend to look at the big picture, while acknowledging the smaller structure that compile within mainstream society. Although exploration of a society as a whole is necessary, one must look deeper into the small cell existences for explanations and character defining. I do believe that everything affects each surroundings in one form or fashion. Thus, the smaller social scales will somehow influence the broader picture. The broader picture, or institutions, will effect processes and behaviors of the smaller social scales. It is a true cause and effect mentality. When engaging in society, whether it be through work or casual interactions, I often question why. Why does a family practice what they do? Why does my client not seek to further their education? Inequalities? Personal beliefs or norms? My opinions are comparable to social theories. Each person will carry their own perspective to the reasoning for society and

Sociology cannot be clearly explained as there are many different theories and theorists; so far none of them have been defined as a correct answer. Although with all this information of theories and theorists sociology is relatively explained as agreed philosophies that delivers a reason for human society. Sociological theories are like most other theories, they are selective, and there is no quantity of theory to explain everything or define the infinite amount of information that exist or comprehend the methods of observing reality. Sociological theories vary and can be linked to each other according to various criteria. The two main perspectives of sociology are the micro sociological approach and the macro sociological approach. The micro sociological approach is based more on the persons being capable of their own independent thoughts feelings and behaviour; therefor society is built through their interactions amongst each other and the significances they attach to them. This approach is defined using Social Action Theory and Symbolic Interactionism. The Macro Sociological approach is on a much bigger scale and consists of a person being born into a current society which will then shape their behaviour. It centres on the organisations, values and the culture of that particular society and how it impacts an individual and their role in life. This approach is made clearer using Functionalism, Feminist and Conflict Theories.

Sociology is very complicated, it’s full of terms that can be misinterpreted. For example, social location is interpreted several ways. The most common it the assumption that it’s where you live, in actuality, it’s who you are, your social class, education, gender, race, ethnicity, and the culture. Your social location is affected, by sociological perspective, Henslin (2015) notes, “sociological perspective which stresses the social contexts where people live” (p. 2). As humans, we have to overcome social challenges every day some of us more than other.
When studying in the field of Sociology everyone is going to approach topics in a different manner. No two people are going to have the exact same view on a particular subject. There are however, three major categories in which people might choose to approach topics. The approaches are know as sociological perspectives and are the functionalist, conflict, and interactionist perspectives. Within the theory there are many systems including the microsystem, mesosystem, exosystem, macrosystem, and chronosystem. Sociologists employ three major theoretical perspectives in sociology today. They are the structural-functionalist perspective, the conflict perspective, and the symbolic interactionism. The structural-functionalist perspective is done at a macro level and its focus is on the relationships between the parts of society. The Conflict perspective is done at a macro level and its main focus is on how the wealthy controls the poor and weak.
