The study of sociology has led to many theoretical perspectives regarding society. Each theory incorporates a different aspect and view of our society. Interactions occurring within our culture can be examined and correlations can be contrived. This paper takes a look at three types of sociological theories. Personal sociological theory is examined and associations established.

Conflict and functionalist theory are two dominant perspectives within macrosociology. The conflict perspective stresses a need for social change to address inequality involving class, race, gender, and various other characterizations. Functionalist theory emphasizes the benefits of the various parts of society for ongoing social stability (Barkan, n.d.). A functional approach seeks to ensure social stability and advocates for the status qua.
Microsociology examines social interaction. Symbolic interactionism and utilitarianism are perspectives within microsociology. In these theories, norms, cultural values, laws, religion, social class, consciousness, and ideology are determining of social action of individuals and small groups (Uregina, 2003). Symbolic interactionism allows individuals to define their personal interactions and the symbolism for which their behaviors represent. I tend to look at the big picture, while acknowledging the smaller structure that compile within mainstream society. Although exploration of a society as a whole is necessary, one must look deeper into the small cell existences for explanations and character defining. I do believe that everything affects each surroundings in one form or fashion. Thus, the smaller social scales will somehow influence the broader picture. The broader picture, or institutions, will effect processes and behaviors of the smaller social scales. It is a true cause and effect mentality. When engaging in society, whether it be through work or casual interactions, I often question why. Why does a family practice what they do? Why does my client not seek to further their education? Inequalities? Personal beliefs or norms? My opinions are comparable to social theories. Each person will carry their own perspective to the reasoning for society and
