William Shakespeare’s original play Hamlet sinfully mirrors how our society acts today. A dark tale of revenge peppered with violence and murder can be used to summarise the main theme of Hamlet. Hamlets loyalty to his farther to “Revenge his foul and most unnatural murder,” results in not only Hamlet’s madness but also a mass-murdering spree. This revenge filled violence is relevant in today’s society of mass media.

Hamlet is extremely relevant to us. The murder of King Hamlet, the death of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, Ophelia’s suicided and Hamlet’s revenge of Claudius are all seen as solving what has been broken. Hamlet’s desire to take revenge on Claudius is to satisfy him, not to take the throne or gain inheritance.

As said before, revenge has become a common theme in modern society, especially in the younger generations. The problem that has been aroused over the past 400 years since Hamlet was written is that the belief that all problems can be fixed with the action of revenge. It does not matter if the action being taken is right or wrong or the consequences that will follow, it only matters about our own satisfaction and feeling justice. This is evident in the news today with young adults and teenagers, it can be said that the quote “revenge should have no bounds,” from the play Hamlet was taken too seriously.

Revenge was being classified as a sin in the bible, and is looked down upon in society, is still being presented by the media. The media is controlling the way in which we look at revenge, as it is constantly praised unintentionally with the amount of times it is showcased on the news and in movies, when in reality, it is probably the worse case of action.

Hamlet deals with three revenge plots, all of which involve a son seeking vengeance for his father’s death, much like Sam Fisher. This sense of revenge is being portrayed as acceptable to the youth. And yet we wonder why the violence statistics are rising.

The resolution, each revenge plot ends with highlights and inadequacy of revenge. It should be asked, can we change our fate unlike Hamlet did?

Revenge is an incurable disease the adds flame to the fire of violence, we must stand up and put out this fire before it is inherited by the youth to come.
