In Budge Wilson’s, “Lyssanda’s Poem,” adversity is always present in Lyssandra’s life, which changes her spirit from happy and confident to cold and distant. Initially, Lyssandra always knew her dream, she was always meant to be a poet, the way she thought, the way she talked, it just seemed like destiny. At the beginning of the book one would agree with that. Lyssandra’s friend Elaine said, “ Lyssandra was full of amazing thoughts... she thought in metaphors, and her speech was full of exotic images.(127)” This was how Lyssandra was. She was happy, joyful and confident. She would spend hours reading or writing, hoping that one day she would stumble upon her golden goose, metaphorically speaking. She even had a box full of her writing
