Not many people in the sixteenth century traveled across the globe. However, two voyages successfully set sail and traveled around the world. The first to travel around the world was Ferdinand Magellan who started his expedition on the tenth of August in 1519. Magellan was a Portuguese explorer who organized the Spanish Expedition (Thatcher). About seventy years later, an English Expedition was organized and set sail in 1577 with Sir Francis Drake as a sea captain (Pretty). Ferdinand Magellan started his expedition with five ships and around two-hundred fifty men, while Sir Francis Drake started his expedition with five ships and one-hundred sixty-four men. During Magellan’s Expedition, they named the St. Christopher River, the Point of St. Antony, and made another cape, named Cape St. Apolonia. These were not the only bodies of water or land they named. On their voyage they came across many undiscovered waters and lands to which they continuously named and discovered the Strait of Magellan (History.com). Magellan’s voyage lead in some suspicion to Queen Elizabeth, who sent Sir Francis Drake later to travel pass the Strait of Magellan and see what was beyond it to discover. On Drake’s voyage, they attempted to please God and appreciated his, believed, help during the voyage. They believed that if they pleased God, God helped them, in which one time when they were in the cold, they believed that God sent them into a good bay in which the people that were surrounding them were introduced to things that they brought along on their voyage, and helped the people cover their “nakedness” as well introduced God to the people, which originally the people thought the men from the voyage were Gods (Pretty). Looking at the actions of Magellan and Drake’s voyage regarding Christianity, Magellan took more action into transforming others into Christian and took action when people opposed to transitioning.
