Additionally, we need to be aware that both intrinsic and extrinsic rewards motivate volunteers (Pynes, 2013, p. 381). Although some people choose to volunteer for potential rewards from the organization, that isn’t everyone’s reasons. Some people simply enjoy the rewarding feeling that they get from knowing they are donating their time to an organization that they are passionate about. It is obvious that volunteers provide financial benefits for the organizations they work for, which is quite important for public and non-profit organizations on a budget; however, there are a multitude of other impacts they make as well. Introduction Volunteering is something many do to give back to their community. Being a volunteer is an altruistic way to be involved in helping others. I have volunteered in high school, but since college have fallen out of doing so. I have wanted to get back into being a volunteer, but just haven’t found time with being both employed full-time and a full-time student. A reflection of my volunteering experience can be summarized in two words: Life-changing. It is hard to explain the feelings that occur when you involve yourself in selfless acts for your community, such as volunteering. There is a feeling in your heart that you cannot ignore, maybe it is the happiness you feel or the overflow of emotions in helping others.
