Often what is not natural by nature is not easily accepted by society. People are expected to live the way others think they should live and not the way they want to live. The “term plastic surgery comes from the Greek word “plastikos” which means to mold or shape.”(Plastic Surgery) Initial plastic surgery was used as a way to correct injury or defects in the early 1600‘s. Based on ISAPS Global Statistics for 2010 to 2011, it illustrates that in Canada the number of nonsurgical procedures requiring no incision has dropped by 30% while the number of surgical procedure has increased by 30% from 2010. In recent years the practice is not just limited to correcting an abnormality or defect it can be used to alter or enhance an individual’s appearance. Plastic surgery has proved to be beneficial in a case like bullying, parenting, and the media. It has the ability to eliminate differences and help people to conform to society’s expectations.
Bullying occurs when an individual or group attempts to gain power over another individual through physical or verbal abuse. The bully or the perpetrator would choose a specific individual or victim whom they would terrorize. There are numerous reasons why one would be a target. Here are a few but are not limited to these. People are prone to be bullied based on their appearance, background, ethnic, skill, knowledge or what they have done.

In early years bullying is something that often occurs on the play ground and in schools ,however, as new technology arises bullying is no longer restricted to the play ground and schools. With the access to the internet people have been able to freely express their thoughts ...

One might perceive that cosmetic surgery is like a self inflicted wound in its attempt to heal one psychological agony. Like hair dye and makeup cosmetic surgery only serves to alter one’s appearances, however it does not change who we are inside. By altering one appearance is that some how physically harming someone else? Is it wrong to want something better for yourself? Does the risk of plastic or cosmetic surgery outweigh its benefit? “Some may think that the risk of death is better than living in misery.”(Therese 1)

Plastic surgery has allowed people to conform to society by eliminating their differences. The practice has allowed people to alter and enhance their appearances and not just for correcting abnormality or defect. Coelho says “Everyone seems to have a clear idea of how other people should lead their lives, but none about his or her own.” (16)
