I was in 5th grade, and the most devastating thing ever had happened to me. It was a sunny may afternoon after a baseball game when my dad got a phone call from my coach. He had said that I and two other teammates were invited to the Willamette Valley all - star tryouts the next day. The tryouts would last 2 days. I was very excited and my parents were proud of me. My family has a long history in playing baseball and a lot of my cousins had made the all star team. The day after we received the phone call, I went to the tryout to see about three players from each team. I tried my hardest and gave every little piece of effort I had to make this team. For the next two hours, we warmed up, did fielding drills, and hit. After the practice my mom,
when I was ten years old I lost my grandpa, it was a very bad experience for me but it made me stronger. I remember when he taught me how to catch a baseball, ride a bike, mow the lawn and a lot of other things that I will forever cherish in my heart. the memory I will never forget though is when he taught me everything I needed to know about baseball. we would always go outside together and he would do certain agilities with me to build my stamina, teach me how to catch a pop-fly and he would work on pitching with me which is actually one of my main position that I play today. baseball was a big part of my grandpas life and he always wanted me to play In the major leagues. once he passed away my motives for playing in the major leagues increased.
I tried out and made my highschool team. While playing on my highschool team I joined a travel team for the Brooklyn Cyclones while still playing for my church’s high school team. My passion for softball could not be taken away from me. Even when I failed, I did not give up on my dream. Giving up on my dream of being successful in softball would be equivalent to letting down my past self who was just a little girl who fell in love with softball. Playing softball was my parents way of wearing me out, but it was my way of getting away from the problems of the real world and into a world of my own. Between two white chalk lines nothing else mattered, but playing the game I fell in love with when I was only ten years old. On the field, I was able to feel pure bliss. Playing softball for seven years has not only given me joy, but it has also taught me life skills that I use from day to day. I learned to work as a team to achieve a common goal, to communicate with others better, I have learned to cherish my wins while accepting my losses and I have learned no matter what happens in life, you always have to put your heart and soul into everything you
Some kids that have been playing for a long time got cut. I couldn’t believe it. The next day at practice coach said now that you made the team we are going to have a tryout for who is going to start and make lines according on skill and your ability to work. Every drill I was first, we ran a thing called the stair way to haven, I was first.
“Hello my name is Coach Ventura but you can call me Ace. So, we will be doing some drills for the next 3 days to a--.” My face broke out in red and I was speechless. I thought that there was only one day of tryouts. I calmed my nerves and gained back my composure. I refocused my hearing on the coach when she was in the middle of saying,” …--a number and go to your group.” I didn’t know the first part, but I joined into what everyone else was doing which was getting a duct tape number on the back of our shirts to determine what group we started out in and rotated to. As the clock struck 3:15 we began warming and limbering our muscles. I stretched my legs as far as they would go to the side and reached for the grass. I ran my fingers through the grass and counted along with the team. I felt my legs slowly begin to loosen with each stretch and sprint that we did. Following our series of warm-ups we began playing catch Pop! The sound of a ball hitting leather filled the outfield. As our coaches approached the throwing stopped and the field returned to silence, the buzz of anticipation in the air. Coach McGownd and our assistant Lori gave us a run-down of the practice plan, which included infield-outfield (IO), hitting drills, fielding drills and various base running drills. As he spoke, a few of the upperclassmen whispered back and forth amongst themselves. I caught bits and pieces of phrases like “come on it’s just the first day” and “how about no”. I stood drinking in every word and ignoring their muttered curses. I had never played softball and was determined to learn as much as I possibly could about the game. Coach McGownd asked us to go to a position we thought we might want to play. I ventured across the field and stood by first base. My parents and a few of my friends had told me that I would make a good first baseman so that seemed like the best choice to me. I had no clue how to actually play the position. My emotions ran amuck, ultimately stopping at optimistic.
As a kid, I was born and raised to love the great game of baseball. Many young kids have had dreams to become professional athletes, and achieve prestigious awards/ titles. Like many kids I’ve always dreamed of becoming a professional baseball player. As a younger kid with my head in the clouds, I never really knew what it was like to put my actual blood, sweat, and tears into something I loved, until my worst season I had ever played. This whole story starts in the beginning of my ninth grade baseball season. It started out different from every other year because, of course I was a freshman. This was the first year I had ever practiced with the varsity squad, it was much more difficult, but I still figured I was going to do great. After weeks
What if you were sitting on a bench with your friend and you’re just about to find out if you made the basketball team. Your coach comes to tell you that you made the team! You are really happy and ecstatic! But then you hear the coach tell your friend that they didn't make the team. She’s crushed and starts to cry. Are sports tryouts necessary? Sports tryouts are necessary because it shows kids how to be fair. Also it encourages kids to work harder and practice more so they can tryout next year or be a great player. But if kids do make the team it makes kids excited and want to train harder to be the best. To add on if coaches keep every kid who tries out then the team would be overcrowded with kids and not everyone will play. Sports tryouts can also improve your attitude and they are a great way to show your personality.
It was the most competitive three days of my life, basketball tryouts. This is the first time my friends and I were trying out for a school team, we were all hyped for basketball season. I entered the tryout excited and consequently energetic. Adrenaline was pulsing through all the players bodies, there were 6 foot tall 8th graders with years of experience competing against 6th graders who have never touched a basketball before for the same spots. I was in between, I was a 6th grader that had experience along with some skill. That was also my downfall, I went in overconfident and consequently cocky. I wasn’t planning on getting cut, I walked into the tryout overwrought, nothing could stop me from being on the team.
I worked very hard every day at practice to show why they needed me on the field. I was so excited when I got to play in my first high school tournament. I had to be a pinch runner for the pitcher and I scored the first point in the game. At the end of the season that yearev, they finally realized we were losing all of our games because of this one girl, so they took her out and put me in and moved everyone’s positions around.
My self esteem plummeted and disappointment filled my soul. Fortunately, my dad was there to give me the “Just keep on working hard” speech. I will never forget this one sentence he said: “If you tried your best and you didn’t do well, so what! That’s all they can ask for.” After tryouts, I was placed on team with my best friend at the time, Cal. We were the Huntley Park District Pirates. However, we did not strike gold . Nervous: tending to be anxious; highly strung. The word nervous couldn’t even begin to describe how I felt going into my freshman year cheerleading tryouts. It was late March in 2011 as I was leaving middle school and entering high school. I had cheered since I was little all through elementary school and all through middle school, so when the time had come for high school tryouts I was a nervous wreck. Not only were tryouts a full week, but they also consisted of learning a dance, two side-line cheers, the school fight song and a “big” cheer. I can remember tryouts being absolutely miserable for me, because they fell on Easter Break. That year for Easter I was flying to visit my dad in San Diego, but I was leaving on the second day of tryouts.
A year later, I was again chosen for the team. This time, I worked my way from being a back-up catcher to the starting 3rd baseman in two weeks. But after going 0-2 in my first two at-bats, my coach took me out of the starting line-up. Again, I pinch-hit, and was very successful at it. I even hit what turned out to be a game-winning homerun. We later reached the championship game again, but we lost it for the second time. This time I was more frustrated than I could ever remember being. I was slamming my hand into walls and almost crying. I was really acting very childish.
My names Lewis Biszant and I currently attend the Universeity of Wyoming. I plan on transferring to ASU next year and I just had a few questions about tryouts next year. I was wondering if you guys were offering clinics or anything to help prepare for tryouts and when I fly out there to visit the campus if there was an open gym or something I could attend. I also was wondering if for tryouts I should continue practicing one man stunting or should I focus more on group stunting, since I saw online that the cheer team doesn't do sideline cheers at games. Six long hours after departing Hotchkiss, we finally reached our destination. We pulled into the parking lot of the Super 8 just off Interstate 76 in Sterling, Colorado. Since I had been to this hotel on a previous trip to Sterling, I began wishing I had brought my swimsuit along. Mom and dad went inside and got the keys for room 129. I was so sick of riding in the car that I did not care what the room looked like as long as there was a bed for me to sleep on. As we entered the room, on the left there was the bathroom sink, a mirror, and a place to hang our "good" clothes. To the right, was the miniature bathroom. There was not enough space in there for a midget. Stepping out of the entranceway, there was a wooden dresser with a 27-inch television. By the large window, there was a small table. Two queen size beds sat on either side of the nightstand. The purple patterned quilts were quite shocking compared to everything else in the room.
