Plato proves the tripartition of the soul in Republic IV by inferences found from the phenomenon of psychological conflict. He begins with showing how it is possible for someone to be standing still and be moving at the same time with their torso still while their hands are moving, displaying how people can have two conflicting properties simultaneously.
