1764 There have been rumors that a new act has been proposed to create revenue because of the French and Indian war this act supposedly makes us, the colonists, pay for a stamp on almost all the paper that we buy. Father and mother are optimistic about it, not believing that it's true. Some local townspeople disagree, they are absolutely sure that this is going to be a new act. 1765 “Oh my gosh,” my mother said dismally “the town crier just came in and told us that the king made a new act, the Stamp Act.” Our family relies on the printing press for all of our money, which isn't much anyways.
