Did you know, In January 2014, there were 578,424 people experiencing homelessness? ( (National Alliance to End Homelessness) Homelessness is a big attribute to society, to eliminate the issue, of homeless people, there are many different problem solving techniques in which government and society can do to make a change to homelessness, despite the negative attributes. According to U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, “There are four federally defined categories under which individuals and families may qualify as homeless: 1) literally homeless; 2) imminent risk of homelessness; 3) homeless under other Federal statues; and 4) fleeing/attempting to flee domestic violence” (Castro).

Government can help fix this social problem by encourage others who have not tried living within the homes already provided and established, to live there. Webster defines community as a unified body of individuals. Being unified body of individuals can build hope, faith, and even a safe haven for people. The safe haven to someone without a roof over their head can be the homeless shelters provided by the communities we live in. Vision and values stated, “Some contend that supply the homeless and those at risk of becoming homeless with permanent housing at government expense will get homeless people off the streets so they can live stable lives” (Miller) . According to HUD, Competitive homelessness programs, formulas homelessness programs, and other homelessness programs are establish to help the social problem of homelessness (Homelessness Assistance). Government funding has even a factor in ending homelessness, according to think progress, “The government goal to end veteran homelessness by 2015. To speed up progress, it dedicated an additional $14 million in November on top of the nearly $8 million it had set aside” (Covert). Society contributing to the social problem by donating items can be helped because list of items that homeless shelter takes can be seen online, according to helping the needy (Things To Donate To The Homeless ).
So all in all homelessness can make a problem that needs to be acknowledge in our communities. All four of the general agreements fits the social issue of homeless people therefor considered one of the problems society face, which is a social problem. Homeless people can have both a negative and positive factor on the way society functions. So let’s make a change and produce all positive factors when it comes to homelessness and shelters.
