The Canadian trucking industry obviously has a great impact on the country’s economy. No wonder the shortage of truckers has become a big challenge. Trucks are used for the majority of freight movement within and outside the country. The industry serves the economy by transporting raw materials, unfinished and unfinished goods, and even work machineries. As a matter a fact, without the trucking industry, industries such as construction, warehousing, manufacturing and transportation may come to a halt.

However, the shortage of truck drivers in recent times is inevitable. While some people enjoy the thrill of being on the road for many days at a stretch, many prefer a good balance between work and their lifestyle, which trucking does not offer. A long haul truck driver works an average of 12 hours a day; and are often on the road for 12-14 days with just 3 off-days. This means many days away from home. …show more content…

A truck driver in Canada earns about $50,000 per annum, which is just a little above the minimum wage. Also, considering that drivers do not enjoy many benefits, we can understand why there is a shortage of truckers.
