1) Introduction
The Shining is a thriller/psychological horror film that was directed by Stanley Kubrick and it was released on May 23, 1980. Surprisingly, the movie is based off Stephen King’s book, The Shining. The book was released in 1977 so the film came shortly after. A mini-series was also adapted from the book/film, and it previewed in 1997. A few of the main characters are Jack Torrance (Jack Nicholson), Danny Torrance (Danny Lloyd), and Wendy Torrance (Shelley Duvall). Tony, Danny’s imaginary friend, also has a frightening part in the film as the boy that lives in his stomach. The Shining is a definite horror/thriller movie that messes with the viewers’ minds.
2) Plot Summary
Hoping to cure his writer’s block, Jack Torrance and his small family agree to take care of an extremely isolated hotel for the winter, despite the tragedy that occurred years before. There is an evil spiritual presence that influences the father to act very violent towards his wife and child. His young son is psychic, and he sees horrific images from the past and of the future. Will the Torrance family escape from isolation in one piece?

The music is so creepy, that it is almost scarier than the film itself. When I first watched the film, a few parts left me confused, especially the end. I thought about possible theories and a logical answer of what the ending scene meant. I think the viewer needs to watch this movie multiple times in order to understand every hidden detail; because there are a lot of them. When I re-watched the movie, I noticed that Jack Torrance said something along the lines of “It feels like I’ve been here before.” That explains part of the ending since he was front and center in a picture that had been taken decades
