Abstract During the Second World War an engagement between the Soviet and German forces took place near the town of Kursk. The German offensive, named “Operation Citadel”, was countered by two Soviet counteroffensives. The Soviet’s counteroffensives stopped the German advance. The extensive amount of German equipment lost and casualties guaranteed the Soviet’s victory. The Russians were able to defeat the German attack with intelligence gained on the battlefield through prisoner and through intercepted communications. The German military was never able to recover from this loss and this initiated the demise of the Nazi regime during World War II.
