Upholding the Second Amendment of the United States Constitution is essential to preserving the rights of law abiding citizens and keeping our citizens safe. Yet, lately, people in the government have been pushing to limit the Second Amendment. The Second Amendment located in the Bill of Rights states, “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed” (Shelley, 74). How can the United States of America stay the land of the free if we let them take away our rights? I’ve been surrounded by the world of hunting and the outdoors throughout my entire life. My first word was “deer” if that gives you any indication on how much I deeply enjoyed growing up in that world. I was ecstatic when I was finally able to target practice with guns and bows of my own and even more so when I was able to apply that knowledge and hunt for my own animals for the first time. My background with guns, NRA membership, and interest in the field of law has compelled me to diligently follow the debates in our government over the Second Amendment. The invalidity of many of the points that congressmen attempt to make has both exasperated me and motivated me to support those that work to prove them wrong. A significant point that many have yet to understand is that people are the problem in crimes, not guns. The tragedies that occur at the hands of people should be used as examples to improve our justice system and handling of criminals, not limit our rights. If people want to cause harm, the means to doing so are not going to matter. They may cause harm with a gun, a knife, or even with their bare hands. In America guns have been a part of the country’s society since it’s birth. Throughout history the citizens of the US have used firearms to protect the nation, protect their families, hunt for food and engage in sporting activities. The issue of Guns and gun control is complex. Weighing the rights and liberties of the individual against the welfare and safety of the public has always been a precarious balancing act. In the United States, gun control is one of these tumultuous issues that has both sides firmly entrenched in their positions. Those parties in favor of gun ownership and the freedom to use and keep arms, rely on the fact that the provision for such rights is enshrined in their constitution. In this climate of growing violence, rife with turmoil and crime, gun advocates feel more than ever that their position is justified. As citizens of the “Land of the Free” possessing a gun is a fundamental right, and may even be a necessity... Anti- gun lobbyists point to the same growing violence and gun related crimes in an effort to call on the government to take action. By enacting more laws and stricter control, these people not in favor of guns feel society would be better safer.
In America the Amendment 1 of the U.S. Constitution gives the American people the right to peaceably assemble and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. Most notably Amendment 1 is known for and most often cited as giving the Freedom of Speech. Even before this amendment was ratified people in the U.S. were protesting, as in the Boston Tea Party. Protesting has been a way to effect change in America. A question to ask is this: is there a right way or wrong way to protest.
In conclusion, the second amendment is very important for the United States of America in order to protect our freedom and the common good. Our founding fathers gave us this right to ensure us the ability to protect those self-evident truths. Further, our government has already taken away much of our freedom and we need our guns to protect ourselves from this overreaching government. However, there are many other people who believe this idea is not a good solution and never help. This essay will demonstrate for and against views about the topic. People who agree with this idea consider: firstly, stricter laws will reduce violence and gun control means crime control. Secondly, some research shows people with gun are more at risks of getting shot. Thirdly, guns can always be misused by their owners and finally, stricter law is the best and the faster way to control crime and make community safe. While opponents say first of all, guns are necessary for people safety and protection. Secondly, guns are not the only tools for killing and violence; there are other weapons too and finally, gun ownership is human rights.

The United States Government should not infringe on those rights by the enforcement of gun control against law-abiding citizens. Gun control does not reduce crime, does not stop criminals from obtaining guns, and does not address the real issue of violent crime. There is no evidence that gun control affects the crime rate.
