The Speaker of the House is said to be the most influential person in the House of Representatives. He or She interprets and applies the rules of the House. He or She also recognizes those who wish to speak and decides what bills will be discussed. The Speaker can be the deciding factor in whether a bill will be passed or not. If something was to happen to the President or vice President then the Speaker would be the third in line for the presidency.
