Sebastian Barrera Mr.Engh College English 4 1/19/2016 Antigone Sophocles made the play, Antigone, in 441 B.C. and is regarded as one of his best works. In the play ,Antigone, there is no one set protagonist simply because the plot is too complex and there are numerous pivotal points where their roles change. In the play, the protagonist cannot be viewed in the traditional sense because both characters show characteristics of a protagonist. The plot has both Antigone and Creon playing both roles as protagonist and antagonist turing different pivotal points of the play. Their roles are made by their decisions based on the part of the play. In the traditional view, the protagonist is viewed as a hero, or a “good guy” fighting against evil which is usually the antagonist (the force in the way of the protagonist). On the other hand, the antagonist is seen as the "bad guy" the evil in the play, but In Sophocles' play Antigone, the lines between protagonist and antagonist are blurred and both characters are protagonists. …show more content…

How she reacts to events and the ensuing consequences that occur, forms the plot of the play. At the very beginning Antigone chooses to bury polyneices even though it was against Creon's wishes. She had a choice to leave his body buried but she chose to unbury him which shows her stubbornness, and this is a common trait amongst protagonists. Creon also has this trait and shows it when he discovers her body. Antigone does not give up under any circumstances, which is both admirable and
