The Righteous and Harmonious Fists was an uprising against foreigners and Christians in Shandong. When the Yellow River burst in 1898, the people of north-eastern China were affected heavily. The flood led to crop failure and famine, which affected over 2 million people. After months of growing violence against foreigners and Christians in their country, the people in of north-eastern China got together to create an anti-Christian and anti-foreigner group called The Righteous and Harmonious Fists, today known as The Boxer Rebellion or The Boxer Uprising. The English decided to them ‘’Boxers’. The Boxer fighters believed in Buddhist and Daoist ideas that they were invulnerable to weapons and bullets. This secret society called for the return
“The 1910 Jeffries-Johnson Fight and Its Impact” was by far my favorite reading from the text this semester, which is the main reason for my choosing of this topic. Throughout this article, I found it to be incredibly intriguing how detailed it was on the struggles that Johnson went through. Discussing the difficult experiences he had as a rising black athlete and then to end up with a white woman who, to many, could or could not have been considered a prostitute. All of the events during Johnson’s life make him such an amazing person and a very interesting athlete to learn more about.

Silbey, the author gives an account using allied soldier and diplomat’s letters and diaries of the Boxer Rebellion. The Boxer Rebellion is an anti-foreigner movement in China during 1900. The conclusion of this rebellion lead to China having signed the Boxer Protocol in September 1901(Page 225). This treaty entailed the Chinese paying reparations to the United States, Russia, Britain, Germany, France, Japan, Italy, and Austria-Hungary.
The Society of Righteous and Harmonious Fists or Yihquan was a secret group of people during the Qing Dynasty, many of whom were peasants, particularly from Shandong province. The province itself suffered from famines and floods, so the people of Shandong were in need of aid. But since China had given territorial and commercial concessions in this area to several European nations, this brought a contentious atmosphere and so Yihequan had a surge of participants . The boxer rebellion began in 1980 where the secret group, had begun carrying out regular attacks on Christian missionaries and Chinese Christians. These attacks spread to Beijing, where the movement destroyed churches and railroad stations which isolated Beijing .In June 20, 1900,

His mother is getting moodier by the day, his sister, Hildy, hates herself because of her dark hair and “Jewish” nose and his father is printing illegal documents for some secret buyers. On Kristallnacht the gallery is broken into and the family is torn apart. Karl must now comfort his sister and search for his injured father and his mother. With the help of some of exceptional people, he manages to get over these many obstacles and make his way to America.

From my greatest general studies on this topic because of the time frame, like any other sports in the twentieth century, boxing was also segregated, but Jack Johnson was able to be the first African American to won the heavyweight champion in the twentieth century. The heavyweight champion was a symbol of masculinity and ranked highly among the white upper and middle class society.

The Great Pueblo revolt of 1680 all started with the droughts of 1660 when the Southwest had severe drought that brought famine and disease. During this, hungry Apaches who couldn’t find food on plains attacked the pueblos. This angered the people on the pueblos, but there new leader Pope’, a mysterious medicine doctor, tried to keep the Indian beliefs around and resisted the Christian religion. The Spaniards hated this, so they captured his older brother. This enraged Pope’ against the Spaniards so he held meetings to tell everybody that the Spaniards must leave. The Spaniards found out about this and arrested Pope, publicly flogged him and released him back to the pueblos. When he was captured, the pueblo people set fires in the Indian villages in New Mexico. To take care of the fires, the Spaniards sent troops to halt the ritual of setting the fires by pueblo people, and they arrested all of the medicine doctors, killing several of them. The people believed that the doctors protected them from evil, so all of the pueblo towns wanted to unite against the Spaniards. The group from the pueblos went to the governor of Santa Fe and told him that if the doctors that were imprisoned weren’t released by sundown, all of the Spaniards in New Mexico would be killed. They released the prisoners because the Indians outnumber the Spaniards by a huge amount.

Throughout history, many people have become like superheroes not because of extraordinary powers, but extraordinary courage, bravery, humanity, and love. Those people made a choice to risk everything they had in order to save another human being. Is it the right thing for a person to stand up and do the right thing?

He lived in Louisville, Kentucky where he experienced discrimination and racial prejudice towards himself and his family, which led him to his fascination towards boxing. Later in his life, he would win the Olympic gold medal for boxing in 1960 and became the world heavyweight boxing champion in 1964, and was the first fighter to recapture heavyweight champion three times. But Clay was not only a boxer, he was also a philanthropist and social activist with astonishing effrontery, he spoke out against problems such as race, religion, and politics that cause him to become such a controversial figure.

Although boxing is a popular and active sport, there are other sports who do not intentionally try and physically hurt their rivalry. Boxing should be more controlled as a sport because it encourages violence, causes head injuries, and is dangerous.

As the fighter's face drips with blood, he continues to push forward and engage his opponent. At this point in time, the fighter's body and mind are telling him to give up. Most people give in to this feeling because they do not know what their body can actually do. However, a true athlete knows how to keep on fighting and ignore what his body and mind are ordering. Although there is much bloodshed, mixed martial arts is not a barbaric death match, but a sport because there are many techniques and rules that a fighter must master and follow in order to ensure safety to himself and his opponent.
