“Cogito ego sum” - this is a famous quote from Rene Descartes. This quote means," I think, therefore, I am." His beliefs are considered to be epistemological and he is also considered as the father of modern philosophy. In his letter of meditation, he writes about what he believes to be true and what is not true. He writes about starting a new foundation. This meant that he was going to figure out what is true and what is false. He also writes about how he wonders if he is human and if what he sees is real or false. He stated if he is not certain what is true then he would consider it to be false. He also talks about his uncertainty of whether he is awake or asleep. This helps people in their daily lives by making them think: What is reality? Can we really trust our brain, eyes, ears or taste? Our brain can make us think that we are seeing the thing but are we certain that it is true? Or is our brain just lying to us? An example is when we look at an optical illusion, our eyes make us believe that it is moving even though it is not; but we think it is moving because of the patterns. Our eyes tell our brain something and it can be false. We struggle with what is true. We are uncertain of things and we would rather believe what other people tell us instead of trying to figure out for ourselves if it is true. Reading his meditation make me think about how it is important to think about what is true and what is false. I think that he was making one see the importance of questioning one’s senses about whether it is false. It is also important that one does not become too skeptical about things. One should be moderate about what we should question. We can apply Rene Descartes philosophy to our everyday lives because we can make a difference. We can analyze what we do in our daily lives and we can make a difference finding the truth about life. I personally like the philosophy of Rene Descartes even though his philosophy is considered to be epistemological and it has zero ground. His philosophy can help our community by making us look at reality in a different way. Even if his philosophy is considered to be irrational, we should take in mind what he mediated in his meditation
