In this article, Giammarco presents an analysis of “The Raven.” While critiquing Poe’s work, Giammarco covers how Edgar Allan Poe is well known for his dark depictions and emotionally haunted characters. Giammarco goes on to inform that Poe’s writing in “The Raven” is attributed to his harsh upbringing. Poe’s troubled personal life of battling with illnesses, loss and poverty contributes to that of the Poe’s dark tone in “The Raven.” Poe’s word choice in “The Raven” gives the reader a feeling of silence and of being alone. Poe’s “Morella” is a short story about a young woman who struggles to find her religious identity and eventually dies giving birth to her daughter.
