Divorce, it happens nowadays more than not, which about forty to fifty percent of married couples in the United States end in annulment. The divorce rate for subsequent marriages is even higher. Separation not only effects the husband and wife, but it drastically harms their offspring as well. Studies have shown that children that come from separated parents are more likely to have psychological problems such as social anxiety, depression, and substance abuse. Whether the divorce happens before a child is too young to understand or during teenage years where emotional instability is frequent, it is still extremely damaging for the short and long term. This can cause many psychological problems in their still developing brain. In the brain, there is a section called the pre-frontal cortex. It is located in the very from and is where higher thought process takes place. Making life shattering decisions such as a divorce while is still developing can cause major changes in the personality or how the child thinks. With this part of the brain not fully developing until about age twenty to twenty-one, this can cause, many unforeseen disorders or diseases. An example of a common disorder is social anxiety which is a varying disorder that effects everyday life and everyday tasks. Social anxiety is caused when any human interaction causes an uncomfortable feeling or stress. Symptoms may be severe causing nausea, dizziness, and muscle tension or may be less severe causing heart racing and an uneasy feeling. Social anxiety often does not follow people into adulthood but can still be a possibility. Not only does social anxiety stem chiefly as a result of divorce, but children also feel abandoned and
